Just 1.7 miles south of the Lodge lays what many consider to be the Crown Jewel of Northeastern Oregon: Wallowa Lake.
The State just recently completed a walking/bicycling path so you can now safely walk from Joseph to the county park for whatever recreational endeavor you desire. You can find out more about this National Treasure by visiting WallowaLake.net. Along the way you will pass the Sacred Ground of the Nez Perce who once made their summer camp at the edge of the lake. See Joseph Hiking and Chief Joseph to understand what these areas meant to the first Americans.
